The National Resource Center for Child Protective Services (NRCCPS) mission is to build the capacity of State, local, Tribal and other publicly supported child welfare agencies to achieve safety, permanency and well-being for children and families. NRCCPS can assist your child welfare agency on this web site in the following ways.

  1. On-Site and Off Site Technical Assistance. To learn more about the scope of this free service and how your agency can request technical assistance please click on the menu item Technical Assistance..
  2. Communication. By clicking on Communication you will find information on how to contact NRCCPS as well as the NRCCPS Staff directory.  You will also find a place to make suggestions on how we might improve this web site to benefit you in your work.
  3. Resources and Information. By clicking on the Resources and Information menu button you will find publications, articles, PowerPoint presentations, as well as links to web sites that may prove to be of interest to those in the child welfare field.
  4. SLO Support and Communication. This is designed for State Liaison Officers.  SLO’s can click the menu item State Liaison Officers to access support and information related to their roles, with a special focus on CAPTA implementation.
  5. Program and Practice Guidelines. In response to the increasing number of methamphetamine using families entering the child welfare system and increasing agency caseloads, the current series of three articles explores safety decision making responsibilities with families using methamphetamine. Each safety decision making point will be explored regarding its relationship to what we know about methamphetamine, its effects, how it plays out. To access the articles please click on Program Practice Guidelines on the menu bar on the left to select and view these publications. Program and Practice Guidelines are based on practice needs that have been developed from widespread practice demands in the field.
  6. Staff Development Resources. What information do Child Protective Services (CPS) caseworkers gather and analyze in order to determine if a child is unsafe? Do caseworkers have a clear sense about what information is necessary in order to draw conclusions about a child’s safety? What information do CPS supervisors consider from their caseworkers and from documentation in order to evaluate safety decision making? Click on the link to access staff development resources related to supervision, case practice and decision making on Safety-Related Information Standards: What Every CPS Caseworker Needs to Know to Make Good Safety Decisions.
